5 Proven Self Motivation Techniques To Success In Any Area Of Your Life

Do you consider yourself to be a highly motivated individual?

If you want to achieve good results in what you do, motivation is key. You wouldn’t ride a bike with no air in you wheels now, would you?

The question really is: Do you have a consistent strategy to get motivated and perform at your highest possible level? If you don’t, be calm. That’s why I’m here to share with you 5 self motivation techniques that I’ve learned from Brian Tracy and I can honestly say that they’ve turned out to be true in my experience.

Ready to get started?

Self Motivation Technique #1 – Have Clear, Written Goals.

There’s no doubt about it, goals are powerful. If you want to get anything in life, be it money or a great relationship, you have to first identify that this is something you desire. When I started setting goals for myself, my life transformed. I was happier, more energetic and more optimistic. Day-to-day existence was over because I had an exciting future to look forward to and I loved working on making it real.

When you set a goal and expect it to become your reality, there are amazing things that can happen. But, in order to accomplish that, your goals need certain characteristics. They need to be very clear, specific and written down so you can keep them in front of you all the time. Do you shop for groceries once in a while? You probably have a list of exactly what you want to buy, don’t you? Apply the same to your goals and we’re home.

Self Motivation Technique #2 – Have Standards And Measures Of Progress.

This is especially important when your goals are big. You need to know how much progress you are making in order to keep your motivation high. It is sometimes possible to get discouraged simply because you’re trying to eat the whole whale at once, when it would be easier to eat it one bite at a time. First, you don’t get overwhelmed and with laser focus on one small goal leading up to your big goal, you can put a lot more energy into it. Second, as you accomplish all those little goals, you consistently put the word success in your score card, which brings us to…

Self Motivation Technique #3 – Have Success Experiences.

When you succeed, you feel successful. When you feel successful, you are motivated to strive for more. And as you accomplish your little goals, you will see that your big goal is possible and your motivation will skyrocket!

At one point in my life I decided that I was going to be the best student in my class. I figured that a 5,0 grade average would do it. How to accomplish that? Simple, get an A or a B in every test. With each small success of getting an A or a B I knew that I would reach my goal. And my motivation rose to a point that nothing was going to stop me. And it didn’t.

Self Motivation Technique #4 – Have Recognition.

People are motivated by praise and recognition more than anything else. That is why it is important to surround yourself with people who will be supportive of your efforts and recognize your progress. Can you remember a time when you were still a child and your parent praised you? How did it feel? I can’t speak for you, but what I can say for myself is that whenever I get praised for doing something, I want to do more of it.

I used to literally crave praise from my teachers that’s why I was working hard. Or I was working hard, therefore wanted praise? I don’t know exactly, maybe it’s both? Anyway, when I didn’t get praised, I got pissed off and worked harder. If I did get praised, I got happy and hungry for even more.

Self Motivation Technique #5 – Rewards.

Wouldn’t you like to be rewarded for kicking butt and doing a great job? Why do you think we have trophies and medals at sports events? They are a symbols of an accomplishment and also a material proof of success. When you successfully accomplish what you set out to do and reward yourself for it, your brain says “Oh man! It was worth it!”. And now you decide to conquer another goal with anticipation of the next reward.

You know what? I’ve got a bonus self motivation technique for you. I came across it while reading a post on Idowu Omisore’s blog and thought it was really important.

Self Motivation Technique #6 – Monitor Your Inner Conversations.

Here’s the deal. Who’s running your Inner Talk? Is it your Inner Wussy, or your Inner BadAss? If you are not careful and deliberate about the thoughts you think, you may discover that you are cutting your own wings. But here’s the good news. If you make friends with your Inner BadAss, you can equip yourself with a turbojet engine that will get you to your goals in no time.

Now that you have a consistent strategy to get motivated and perform at your highest possible level, I challenge you to take what you’ve learned and put it to use. Create a vision, create a dream, create a goal and go after it. There is noting stopping you.
